How to Get a Legitimate ED Prescription

Why a licensed clinician and a regulated pharmacy give you far more certainty than any gray-market pill.

Start with a licensed healthcare professional

The most reliable route to ED treatment begins with a licensed clinician—a doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant—who can assess your symptoms and overall health. ED can be an early sign of heart disease, diabetes or hormonal problems, so the visit itself has value beyond a prescription.

Primary care and urology

A primary-care clinician can evaluate and treat most cases of ED. A urologist specializes in the urinary and reproductive system and may be appropriate when first-line treatments haven't worked, when there are anatomical concerns, or when devices, injections or surgery are being considered.

Legitimate telehealth prescribing

Telehealth can be a legitimate option. A legitimate service uses licensed clinicians, reviews your medical history before prescribing, requires a valid prescription, and dispenses through a licensed pharmacy. Be cautious of any website that sells prescription drugs without asking health questions or requiring a prescription. SynMale does not recommend specific services.

What medical history may be reviewed

Expect questions about heart health, blood pressure, chest pain, prior heart attack or stroke, liver and kidney function, vision problems, and all medications and supplements you take. A clinician may check blood pressure or order blood tests such as glucose, cholesterol or testosterone.

Why medication interactions matter

PDE5 inhibitors must not be combined with nitrates or riociguat because of the risk of a severe blood-pressure drop. Alpha-blockers and other blood-pressure-lowering drugs require careful, clinician-guided dosing. Some antifungals, antibiotics and HIV medications can raise PDE5 inhibitor levels. A prescriber screens for all of these.

Generic sildenafil and tadalafil

FDA-approved generic versions of sildenafil and tadalafil are available by prescription in the United States. Generics contain the same active ingredient and must meet FDA standards for quality and bioequivalence.

Why a prescription provides more certainty

A legitimate prescription filled at a licensed pharmacy gives you far more certainty about what drug you are taking and at what dose. Gray-market, imported and “herbal” enhancement products have been found to contain the wrong ingredient, the wrong dose, or undeclared drugs—and none of them include screening for interactions.
